A Taoist Fable

- Image via Wikipedia
Consider the following Taoist fable about the man whose horse ran away;
“His neighbor commiserated only to be told, ‘Who knows what’s good or bad?’ It was true. The next day the horse returned, bringing with it a drove of wild horses it had befriended in its wonderings. The neighbor came over again, this time to congratulate the farmer on his windfall. He was met with the same observation: ‘Who knows what is good or bad?’ True this time too; the next day the farmer’s son tried to mount one of the wild horses and fell off breaking his leg. Back came the neighbor, this time with more commiserations, only to encounter for the third time the same response, ‘Who knows what is good or bad?’ And once again the farmer’s point was well taken, for the following day soldiers came by commandeering for the army and because of his injury the son was not drafted.”
What’s it about?
It’s about how we are always judging things and our continual judgment of things is one way that we keep ourselves out of the Now (the Tao)

Hi, good post. Thanks for posting. I actually came to your blog searching for downloads.
Have you noticed an increase in the number of comments since installed KeywordLuv? I’ve been considering using it on a blog I own and need some honest feedback.
This is a newer blog and I’ve had the KeywordLuv installed since day one, so it’s hard to say.
Thanks for the comment! Glad you can visit!
Good article here and I’m very glad to see you’ve put KeywordLuv to use!
Wow. Awesome fable. The thing is we don’t know how something will benefit or harm us in the long run. Life is full of surprises eh?
